(2) Advocate the development, monitoring and regulation of the public transportation system in the interest of owners, operators and the passengers. (3) Represent the interest of owners and operators to any and all institutions. (4) Organize and provide training and development for owners and operators. (5) Foster the best relationship between the owners, operators, community organizations, regulatory agencies, enforcement agencies and other entities involve in the public transportation sector. (6) Increase the income whilst reducing the operating cost to the owners and operators. (7) Encourage compliance to the laws of the land. (8) Advocate change to the law wherever such laws violate natural justice.

What is the procedure for applying for a road licence?

Once you have determined the type of road licence you would like to apply for, you need to get the relevant application form, as well as requirement sheet from any of the Transport Authority offices or download it from their website at ​www.ta.org.jm​​​. This should be filled out and submitted with the relevant documents and fee for the applicable type of licence. Applications may be submitted at the transport authority office or on their website.
Persons who want to apply for Route Taxi licences should visit their respective Route Taxi Associations.

What are the requirements for applying for road licences?

Requirements sheets and application forms may be collected at any Transport Authority office or may be downloaded from their website www.ta.org.jm.

Do I have to wait until March 31st of every year before my road licence can be renewed?

No, the Transport Authority has made the provision for all road licences to be renewed before the expiration date. The licensing renewal period usually begins in Mid-February of each year and your road licence will be valid until the following year March 31st. For information on the specific date for renewals each year, please contact the transport authority at 876-926-8912.

What is the process for applying for a PPV Drivers badge?

You are required to obtain a requirement sheet, from any of the Transport Authority offices island-wide; or you may download the requirement sheet from the Authority’s website (​www.ta.org.jm​​​). Once you have satisfied all the requirements, you may then visit the Transport Authority’s office nearest to you and submit your application.
